Why do automatic doors open?

Short answer

A sensor detects motion or presence near the entrance and sends an opening signal to the door controller.

How it works

Automatic doors can use sensors based on infrared light, microwaves, or other methods. When a sensor detects movement or presence in its detection area, the controller runs a motor to open the door.

A separate safety sensor checks the doorway and the path of the moving door. If a person or object is detected, the system can stop closing or reopen the door.

Key point

The door does not necessarily understand a person’s face. Sensors detect motion or presence according to the model, installation, and settings, so detection behavior can vary.
